| Carolina coasted to a 49-15 win over Coastal Carolina in the 2018 season opener. Jake Bentley passed for 250 yards and four touchdowns, while the defense held Coastal's spread option to 3.2 yards per rushing attempt. The Gamecocks scored on both of their first quarter possessions, as Bentley marched USC 80 yards in eight plays before Rico Dowdle finished it off with a five yard touchdown run. The USC defense forced a Coastal punt and then the Gamecock offense geared up again, going 69 yards in 10 plays with Bentley finding tight end Kiel Pollard for an eight yard touchdown pass. The Chanticleers would get a field goal to make it 14-3, but the first Gamecock possession of the second quarter went 72 yards in fourteen plays, finishing up with a 24 yard touchdown pass from Bentley to Bryan Edwards. After Coastal punted twice, with USC's only punt of the day sandwiched in between, the Gamecocks finished the half off with a 76 yard touchdown drive in just 45 seconds, as a 22-yard pass from Bentley to Dowdle made it 28-3 at the half. Coastal would add a field goal in the third, but Caroilina countered with two more touchdowns, a nine-yard run by Ty'Son Williams and an eight yard pass from Bentley to Deebo Samuel. It was 42-6 when the third quarter ended. Coastal added a third field goal from Massimo Biscardi and a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, while the Gamecocks' backup QB, Michael Scarnecchia, tossed his first touchdown pass, a 27-yarder to Randrecous Davis.
