Adam Hill struck out 14 in seven innings as he and Clemson's Jacob Hennessy entertained fans with a standout pitching duel before some late game heroics gave Carolina a 3-2 win. Hill allowed just two hits, but one was a 2-run homer by Gamecock nemesis Seth Beer that put the Tigers up 2-1 in the 6th. The game turned USC's way for good when senior Matt Williams crushed a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game off Clemson's Owen Griffith. USC closer Eddy Demurias pitched a three-up, three-down top of the ninth as tension mounted. Senior Jonah Bride opened the bottom of the ninth with a walk, then moved all the way to third when Tiger pitcher Ryley Gilliam tried to pick him off first only to find there was no one covering first base. Danny Blair pinch ran for Bride and after Jacob Olson struck out Noah Campbell drew another walk to put runners at the corners with just one down. Cener fielder T.J. Hopkins, batting in the leadoff spot for the first time this season, hit a deep fly ball to left, deep enough to score the speedy Blair for a Gamecock win.
