The Gamecocks dropped their SEC season opening series to Florida in a narrow 3-2 loss. The Gators got out to a 3-0 lead, starting with the very first batter as Wil Dalton led off the game with his third homer in two days. Florida added two more runs in the top of the fourth off Carolina starter Ridge Chapman as catcher JJ Schwarz homered then Jonathan India was hit by a pitch, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a sac fly by Deacon Liput. Carolina relievers Parker Coyne (one inning) and fomer Gator Eddy Demurias (four innings) shut out Florida the rest of the way. USC added one in the fourth as a Danny Blair single plated Jonah Bride but Carolina would squander several scoring opportunities over the rest of the game. Jacob Olson got USC within one run with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth but UF All-American closer Michael Byrne held USC hitless over the final 2 1/3 innings.
