The Gamecocks fell behind 3-0, battled back to tie the game but then ultimately fell 6-3 on the road at Texas A&M in the series opener. Aggie shortstop Braden Shewmake popped up a two-run homer off Logan Chapman in the first inning and teammate Aaron Walters homered in the second to build that 3-0 lead. Carolina used some longball of its own to get back in the game. The first run came via some small ball though, as Matt Williams led off the third with a single, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Noah Campbell. Madison Stokes led off the fourth with his ninth homer of the year to cut the deficit to 3-2, then Carlos Cortes tied it up with a home run in the fifth. Things went south from there as the Aggies scored a run in the sixth off Eddy Demurias via two singles and a passed ball to retake the lead, then a double, two singles ad a walk led to two more runs and the final tally of 6-3.
