Coach Bobby Richardson got some solid pitching from freshman Hal Hutchens and some key extra-base hitting from Don Repsher to earn his 200th win as the Gamecocks' head man. Hutchens pitched a complete game, giving up four runs despite giving up 11 hits and six doubles in an 8-4 win over UNC. Repsher had a bases-loaded triple in the first and a double in the sixth as he drove in four runs on the day. The triple accounted for three of the seven runs USC scored in the first to run away with this one. The win improved USC's record to 17-7.
