Game two of the Vanderbilt series saw #1 starter Adam Hill get rocked for six runs in the second inning, and unlike the last two big deficits USC faced the Gamecocks couldn't fight their way back in this one. The game started promisingly, as Carlos Cortes gave Carolina a lead in the first inning with a solo homer. Hill then gave up six singles and a pair of walks in the second as the Commodores dinked and dunked their way to a 6-1 lead. Vandy added two more in the fifth when Ridge Chapman, just on in relief, gave up a two-run homer to center fielder Alonzo Jones. The Gamecocks were never able to piece together the hits to chip away at the lead, leaving the series tied at one.
