For the second time in the weekend series and the third time in their last four SEC games, Carolina rallied from a deficit of at least four runs to beat a national top 20 team. In this game USC starter Cody Morris gave up four runs in the second inning and clearly wasn't himself as Vanderbilt jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Even as the Gamecocks tried to chip away at the lead - Jonah Bride had a two-run homer in the third - relievers Eddy Demurias and Sawyer Bridges struggled to keep Vandy off the board as the Commodores pushed their lead to 5-2 and then 6-3. The Carolina bats came to the rescue in the seventh, scoring three runs to tie the game at six. Bride had a sacrifice fly to bring home TJ Hopkins for the first run, Justin Row had an RBI single and a double by Madison Stokes brought in the sixth run. Vandy then matched those three runs in the bottom of the seventh, putting USC right back in a hole. Unfaze, Carolina scored three more in the eighth as Noah Campbell walked and Hunter Taylor singled, setting the stage for the suddenly red-hot Carlos Cortes. The Miami native launched a homer to right to tie the game. Graham Lawson came on in relief in the bottom of the 8th and became the first USC pitcher to have success, getting a fly out and two strikeouts. Jacob Olson opened the 9th by getting hit by a pitch, then stole second and moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Hunter Taylor's deep fly to center scored Olson with the go-ahead run and Lawson shut the door in the bottom of the 9th for a 10-9 victory.
