| A pair of career firsts and an overtime goal helped Carolina upset #19 Virginia Tech Tuesday night in Blacksburg. The Hokies would score first, as forward Nico Quashie, their second leading scorer, put in his fourth goal of the year just before the seventeen minute mark. USC played solid defense the rest of the way and it would be defenseman Paul Quidies who would tie the game at one with his first career goal. Fellow backliner Mitchell Myers delivered a corner kick that Quildies headed into the back of the net. The two teams remained even through regulation, though sub forward Bjorn Gudjonsson narrowly missed an opportunity in the 86th minute when his shot was blocked right. The match went deep into overtime but Myers intercepted a ball around midfield, then delivered a pass to Luca Mayr, who drilled it past Hokies goaltender Mathijs Swaneveld with just 19 seconds left in the second overtime. The goal was Mayr's second on the year and first game-winner. Also coming in the career first category was sophomore goalkeeper Justin Bauer, who got his first career win in his third start. |
