Game Summary
After clinching the SEC East crown, the #18 Gamecocks won their second straight over Clemson to finish the regular season on a high note. The game started shakily for USC, as Clemson QB Kyle Parker hit DeAndre Hopkins for 30 yards to get into Carolina territory and then found Hopkins again from 45 yards out for a 7-0 lead. Those would be the final points the Tigers would score though, as the Gamecocks dominated the rest of the way. USC answered the Tigers score with a 48-yard drive that ended with a 46-yard field goal by Spencer Lanning. USC's defense then began to show up, as linebackers Josh Dickerson and Tony Straughter stopped Jamie Harper for a four yard loss on first down and forced an incompletion on third down. The next Clemson possession was a three and out and then a fumbled snap on the punt was recovered by Carolina's Brian Maddox at the Tiger nine and returned four yards. USC scored on the next play on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Garcia to Patrick DiMarco. The extra point was blocked, leaving the score 9-7. After another Tiger punt Garcia hit Alshon Jeffery for 39 yards into Clemson territory then the two hooked up again for a 37-yard touchdown. Another Clemson three and out led to a short field and a 25-yard field goal by Lanning for a 19-7 lead with eight and a half left in the first half. The Tigers' last two possession of the first half also ended in punts. Things didn't go better for Clemson as the second half started, as Parker's first pass of the second half was intercepted by Antonio Allen and returned 37 yards for a touchdown. After two more Clemson punts Lanning added a 37-yard field goal for a 29-7 lead. The Tigers would reach the USC 30 midway through the final period, but Cliff Matthews sacked Tajh Boyd for a 13-yard loss on fourth down. Clemson's last two possessions ended with a punt and a sack by Byron Jerideau as a jubilant USC squad headed to Atlanta for the SEC Championship. ;
