April 7th
1987 - Shortstop Jeff Barns ties a school record as he hammers three home runs in a 15-2 win over Louisville. Barns had seventeen total bases in the game. Barns hit a solo homer in the second, a grand slam in the third and added another solo shot in the fifth. He actually barely missed a fourth round tripper, hitting one off the top of the left field wall for a double in the seventh. Doug Lynch improved to 2-0 with the win, while second baseman Mark Taylor added a double and a homer. The win was part of a doubleheader sweep of the Cardinals. Carolina would also defeat Louisville (12-10) the next day for a clean sweep.
1979 - Senior first baseman Wes Westbrook sets a new school record by driving in nine runs during a 21-5 rout of Georgia Southern. Westbrook also scored four times while homering twice, including a grand slam. The Gamecocks would sweep the Eagles in the weekend series
