2004 - Carolina eliminated Miami at the College World Series in a 15-11 slugfest. The Gamecocks jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first four innings and then hung on as the Hurricanes piled on some runs in the late innings. A Steve Pearce homer brought in two runs in the first, then a sac fly by DH Nick Gardiner and a single from Bryan Triplett added two more in the second. Back to back doubles by Pearce and Landon Powell opened the scoring in third, which alson included a three run homer by RF Brendan Winn. Steven Tolleson led off the fourth with a solo home run and Michael Campbell added an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from Gardiner. The USC scoring slowed after that, though Davy Gregg had an RBI single in the sixth and Miami errors brought in two more runs in the seventh. Miami scored three in the fifth and one in the seventh, which completed USC starter Billy Buckner's day (7 IP, 4 ER, 10 K), but the Hurricanes really got going with two in the eighth and five in the ninth before reliever Zac McCamie came on and got out the two batters he faced to end the game. USC advanced to take on Cal State-Fullerton after sending the Hurricanes home.
