| Carolina ran its winning streak to eight matches after sweeping 13-3 Alabama. The first two sets were very close, with USC winning the first one 26-24. Mikayla Robinson had five kills and Brittany McLean and Mikayla Shields had four each. Defensively Jess Vastine and Aubrey Ezell led the way, combining for 12 digs. Back to back kills by Robinson finally closed out the set for USC. Set two was another back and forth affair. A service ace by Vastine and a kill by Claire Edwards gave USC an 8-5 lead and the Gamecocks later ran off four straight points behind Courtney Koehler's serves to make it 14-9. Alabama would get hot though, at eventually tie the match at 19. The two teams traded points and were still tied at 26 when kills by Edwards and McLean gave Carolina a 28-26 set win. Set three was all USC, as the Gamecocks raced out to a 9-0 lead with Shields, Robinson and Vastine all getting kills. The Tide made a couple of mini-runs and actually got as close as 21-19, but McLean had three kills in the last four points to finish the match off with a 25-19 win. Vastine finished with a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. |
