| Junior Mikayla Shields had a season high 18 kills in leading Carolina to its first season sweep of Georgia since 2006. Shields had seven kills in the first set, including two kills and a block to finish off the 25-23 win. Set two featured a strong performance from Mikayla Robinson (five kills) and a 10-3 run that put USC comfortably up 18-10. Addie Bryant and Aubrey Ezell each had an ace during that run. Carolina faltered in the third set, as a series of errors on serve led to the Bulldogs taking the third set 25-19. Georgia's hit % in the final set though would only be .026 and despite UGA getting out to a 6-1 lead early, USC would win the set. The Gamecocks would pull even at eight and then go on a 5-0 run later to go up 20-16 behind some solid serving from Courtney Koehler. A kill by Jess Vastine would account for the set's final point and give USC an 8-1 home record on the season. |
