| The Gamecocks ran into a buzzsaw traveling to Lexington to meet SEC leading Kentucky. The 14th ranked Wildcats swept Carolina and held USC to its lowest hit percentage of the year. Normal standouts Mikayla Shields and Brittany McLean combined for only six kills on 40 attacks in the loss. Carolina fell behind 5-0 in the first set, but rallied to tie the set at 14 as Mikayla Robinson had a pair of kills and Aubrey Ezell and Shields each had service aces. Kentucky would eventually pull away and win the set 25-18. Set two was a blowout that saw the Wildcats win 25-12. Set three looked promising early on, as USC led 7-3 behind a kill and an ace from Shields and a kill and some good serves from Alicia Starr. A kill by Shields had USC ahead as late as 18-16, but Kentucky took the next four points and never trailed again. |
